Inside the wheel

A working birthday for me, good meeting but then a special treat - a tour inside the Falkirk Wheel.

It truly is an engineering wonder, and I've wanted to see the workings up close for years. We climbed up ladders to the central spindle and watched the hydrolics working. Then inside the spindle and out to the platform at the end. It really was a bit like being in a spaceship. Then we climbed to the top for an up close view of the gondola gates opening and closing. Completely unique.
