Welcome September

Well, it's here. The first day of September. I decided to make some cornhusk dolls, something I haven't done in years. I used some of the husks from the corn I got at the Amish farmstand, the green, and some from dried husks I bought for crafting. I used husk strands for hair but on the one I made for my autumn door wreath (extra) I used the silk from the corn.  That is how my grandpa taught me to make them when I was little.  Cornhusk dolls are a Native American tradition, and the European colonizers of the 17th century learned it from them.  If you want to hear the story about why the dolls have no faces, here is a link to the Cherokee story. The poem is an excerpt from one written by an early 20th century British writer, Hilaire Belloc.
