Fire brigade

I arrived at the nursing home this morning only to be met by the alarms going and all but skeleton staff waiting in reception. Evidently a bit of oil on a griddle had produced a flame which then set off the alarms. The kitchen staff wanted to return to the kitchen and carry on preparing Sunday lunch but the on duty manager wouldn't let them until the fire brigade had arrived and checked everything out. So I sat and waited with them. When I was eventually allowed in I noticed that all of the fire doors had automatically closed so I had to go through about 15 doors as there's one every few yards along the corridors.
I started off with Ziggy this afternoon to walk "round the block" which is about 3 miles of single track country lanes and goes through a couple of other hamlets. However we only got about half a mile away when there was a torrential downpour. We sheltered until it was not as bad, then returned home.
Our son and grandsons will be leaving Taiwan overnight to fly back to the UK. D-i-L will be staying on another week as her parents are not well. They've got a direct flight so it will be around 15 hours. We used to prefer stopping somewhere for a few hours when we used to visit them when they lived there, but I think that with the boys it's easier just to get to sleep and wake up nearly there!
