Morning at the pond

After the first consistent fall of rain last night it was a bright and breezy morning.

The girls slept a little later today thank fully and once breakfasted I suggested that while Chris went to church we go to feed the waterfowl on Coppice Pond, always enjoyable. The only problem is they get over fed during school holidays with so many families visiting.

They each had a bag of food and after feeding a few ducks we headed round the pond to find the swans. One, in the image here, was very busy preening itself and was totally uninterested in our food so we just attracted seagulls. Eventually the pen, I think, came over and we fed her. At the bottom of the pond were all the juveniles but they showed no interest at all.

Along our route down the back of the pond we stopped to watch an archer at Aire  Valley Archery. He was aiming for the very furthest target. The girls ran down to see if he had scored. He’d certainly hit the target but not sure how good his score was.

Before we finished off all the food we popped into the bird hide and saw lots of little birds which we were able to identify from the posters. So after our Friday night badger show we’re having quite a wild life weekend.

Went to Woodbank on our way back home and the girls had ice cream in the ice cream parlour whilst I had a coffee. We rounded things off by making a visit to Elvis the Macaw who was out of his cage and responded to our ‘Hellos’. There was another small parrot at the counter and a small tortoise but sadly Barney the large turtle that used to wander around has died.

The girls did some crafting whilst I got them lunch. Chris was back early from church as he’d forgotten it was a joint benefice service that started earlier and so only just got there in time, luckily he wasn’t on duty!

A nice way to round off August.
