Weed

Busy morning helping Mr B get out of the door in time for his flight (well, ironing some shirts and finding a document, but in terms of how things have been lately, that counts as busy...) The afternoon followed the now familiar pattern of some sorting out of stuff inside, and some weeding in the garden. The veg garden is nearly there... but the weeds in the flower borders are scarier, seeing as how most of them are taller than me.

This weed is one of many such that popped up during our week away. They are mostly about hip height and have flower buds but this one - trapped as it was behind the shutter, has come into flower sooner. I should really dig them out before they get huge and woody, but they are so bonny, unfurling these unreasonably pink and red-edged flowers from fist shaped buds, that I can't.

EDIT: changed photo (put the wrong one up first time). Meanwhile jamjar has identified this as the Four O'Clock plant (Mirabilis jalapa).
