Yew Berries
With so many other wild berries maturing just now it would be tempting to collect these for the kitchen to make preserves but that would be unwise as, though the flesh (the aril)is taken as edible, the seed inside is highly toxic and I don't fancy the task of de-seeding every single one, however delicious the flavour might be. Which is a pity, as the bush is covered with these bright red fruit, which I am happy to leave for the thrushes.
My morning was filled with wrangling resulting from an unexpected phone call yesterday teatime, offering me an appointment for dermatology but at Forth Valley Hospital on Saturday. I did ask the caller what was reason but it was a confusing situation, from which we concluded that I should attend to find out and possibly present another matter of concern, which was not named in the referral.
This morning, by Googling the location, we discovered that services there are spilt between two sites, so I phoned the department to ask which I should attend - but they had no record of me. They were pleasant enough and helpful with their suggestions, which led to my calling my GP practice, which led to a call to Dermatology in Edinburgh to clarify referral details. They were patient and checked my records, which led to a call to a central appointments number to cancel the appointment.
The conclusion is that my visit to the GP in January, to inform them of a change in condition and my concern that I still hadn't received an appointment, had triggered a new referral which had placed me at the bottom of a new waiting list. And although the spot was removed shortly afterwards, in February, this did not cancel the new referral. I had not received a recent appointment letter, so yesterday's call came out of the blue. It's exhausting being well, let alone being ill!
We duly collected the Flumlet from school and spent a happy couple of hours, hearing about his birthday party, listening to his saxophone practice and watching him play a game on his tablet - that sounds very gung-ho, all shooting down planes and stuff but I did point out that although my reading of choice is classified as 'Cosy Murders' I don't go round killing people so I reckon the games sharpen his wits in a similar manner - just with rather more noise.
