Budapest anyone?
Today we had a slow start but made up for it in the end. It took us a while to work out what was the best way to get around Budapest and in the end gave up on the public transport. We wound up at Heroes Square (first extra) and wandered into the big park behind where you have the old castle and a balloon thing which I couldn't work out. We poked our noses into the thermal baths but as it was 31C today somehow thermal baths didn't attract. We then went up to St Matthias and Fisherman's Bastion on the Buda side, those buildings you can see at the top of the hill in the main. The view there over to the Pest side is wonderful We did St Stephens hall in the Palace which is the second last extra (stunning) and the last extra is also of St Matthias and area.
On our way down from the castle we heard Saint-Saen's Dance Macabre and came across Budapest Philharmic Orchestra rehearsing for tonight's concert. We hung around and listened to some of the other pieces (Borodin, Listz) and had dinner at a nearby restaurant.
It's going to be an early night tonight.
