Buckinghamshire County Show

The Bucks County Show is on the last Thursday in August.  We always go as it's not far from us and is a trip down memory lane from when we used to show our own cattle.  There are a few typical animal shots in the extra, although I got rather fascinated by the sheep.

The main image is a competition in the Main Ring, called Double Harness Scurry, that originated in the US.  Two ponies pull a racing carriage with a driver and a groom through a course of cones.  You can only see the legs of the groom in this image because his job is to lean precariously out of the carriage to keep it in balance as it veers around the tight course.  If a cone is knocked over, the team loses 4 seconds, and the fastest team around the course wins.  This team was in the lead when we left, and how they manoeuvred and stayed upright at breakneck speed I'll never know.

It was a beautiful, warm, bright, breezy morning.  The promised torrential showers didn't arrive until mid-afternoon, so I hope the Show did well.  It's as weather-dependent as farming itself.
