Lakkos, Paxos
Lakka is a charming little village on Paxos, and this morning we went ashore to go for a walk before breakfast. You really struggle to get your daily steps when living aboard a small sailing boat! Gavin and I walked up the hill out of the village until we got to the top and then walked back down again - it wasn’t very scenic as the trees closed in the view of the bay, and there were many roosters around, some even perching in trees - not sure if they are wild or not - but at least we got a decent walk. Back in the village we saw Adam returning from his run and we went to the local bakery to buy freddo espressos, which is a popular drink in Greece. It is a double espresso with ice shaken in a mixer then poured over more ice. I don't like it as is too strong for me but the others all like it.
We had another lovely breakfast, today Giorgos made buckwheat porridge as a change from last porridge - in addition to bacon, eggs, fruit, yoghurt etc.
We set sail but did not go far, in fact around the corner to a private bay near Lakkos - there was only one other boat here when we arrived and the water was the most clear we have ever seen - you could look down on it from the boat and see the fish, you hardly needed to snorkel. The colour of the water was an incredible turquoise blue. Tommy was pleased to see an octopus when snorkelling. While the others snorkelled or used the SUP boards I swam lengths around and around the boat, it was lovely until a large boat came past and caused big swells! I think open water swimming in swells must be good exercise. There was also the most beautiful stone house with large glass windows perched on the cliff above the beach, which we all admired. We had lunch here before setting off back to Corfu.
Then we sailed across to the mainland, there was enough wind to get the sails up, and went past Sivota, a developed tourist area on the west coat of Greece near the Albanian border. There were many luxury type of hotels there and I guess its very popular with the Balkan tourists being so close to the border. We went past Sivota and moored at a well known spot called Blue Lagoon Beach which is on a tiny island nearby. It was an incredibly beautiful spot with turquoise water and caves in the cliffs, but as it’s a popular area it was too busy for me as tourist boats bring day visitors in. I had a short swim and then showered and changed ready for supper as when we left Blue Lagoon Beach we headed north back to Corfu, and we will get there at suppertime.
Tonight we are mooring on the east coast of Corfu at Petriti.
