Fabric!
Another day, another art index card!
My friend from Connecticut, where I lived for most of my life, so kindly sent me a large number of fabric swatches after I admired what she used on her art cards. How generous and sweet!
The first thing I did was chose a piece of the gifted fabric to use for the background and attached it to the card. Next, I glued the postage stamp on. It was out on the table, a discarded choice from another project. As I looked at the card so far, I thought maybe a bit of rubber stamping would compliment it and went on a search. I located a few postage/mail themed stamps and a background stamp (vertical lines). I used a permanent ink pad, tested the stamps on paper and then stamped the fabric.
My friend had done some machine stitching of fabric to paper on her cards and I decided to do the same. I sewed around the edges and 2 squares, suggested by the print of the fabric. At that point I thought perhaps some drawing to finish it. I got out a fine line permanent marker and drew the circle and the vine, then added a touch of gold metallic with a gel pen.
Voila'! I would definitely describe this card as mixed-media art! Hope you enjoy.
