Gannets
Visited Troup Head, located midway between Fraserburgh and Banff on the Moray Coast, to photograph gannets this afternoon. I was joined by fellow blipper Charlie17. The weather conditions were perfect, warm sunshine and just a light breeze.
Gannets are strikingly beautiful birds and given their size very graceful flyers. I was disappointed not to capture any pictures of them in flight or plunge-diving into the sea for fish.
As well as the portrait on the front page I have posted some extras …
~Those eyes!
~A young gannet (perhaps one year old) which has returned to the cliffs for the breeding season, its piebald plumage will turn white with age.
~Charlie on the move just after I told him I had been stung twice by wasps on the same arm a few minutes apart. He wasn’t for hanging about!
~The view from Troup Head looking over to the village of Pennan. Parts of the film ‘Local Hero’ were set there with its telephone box on the harbour being one of its stars!
