Eglise Saint Samson, Ouisterham (Caen)
This lovely old church in the centre of Ouistreham was built during the 12th and 13th centuries and fortified by the Norman lords. It was used as a place of worship and as a lookout - no doubt for those marauding English! We sadly left my sister after breakfast (I hate leaving her) and had a very good drive (about 550 kilometres) up to Ouisterham with a couple of stops en route. Driving on French autoroutes is such a pleasure with far less traffic than in England but of course France is so much larger and has far more room! We passed a Lotus Elise, just like Mr Sk's, so took a quick snap (in extras).
We're staying the night at Ouisterham, right next to the ferry port, so we won't have far to drive to catch our 8.30am ferry. We walked down to the beach this evening and along a nice boardwalk where there were some fun sculptures of animals by Michel Bassompierre. The bear in my second extra amused me. After we got back to the hotel after supper, the heavens opened - good timing.
