'Watershed'
This sculpture at the junction of St Mary's and St Anne's Roads in the suburb of Old St Vital in Winnipeg stands in recognition of communities past and present.
In 1950 a major flood put this whole area under water and canoes were used to transport people and supplies.
Much earlier in 1820 a Meti settlement was established here.
Artist Collin Zipp took actual canoes, altered them and stood them on their end to create this emblem of resilience to honour all who have walked and worked and sailed here, over more than 20 decades.
Called 'Watershed', the statue was unveiled in 2018.
