Wood carver at work

Torshaven in the Faroe Islands was the port of call today. B has listed the places we visited, so I will be lazy and direct you HERE for info, whilst I recount some other details.

We visited a woodcarver who makes beautiful lampshades. He sources all his own wood and does all the preparation, waiting for the wood to season and working the wood until he has the final product. This can take up to a year!!

The wood on the lathe is 2.5cms thick and will be reduced in thickness to 0.5cms to make a lampshade that will allow the light to shine through.

These are some examples of his work.

During our travels round Iceland we have not seen a single cat, so it was a moment of pleasure to see this chunky chap at the woodcarvers!!
