Dodderers
In 1970, Celtic Football Club, having demolished the much fancied Leeds United in the semi final, were expected to lift the European Cup for the second time in three years. What Jock Stein and his players seemed to forget was that there was other club, Feyenoord of Rotterdam, who also wanted to win the European Cup. Last night’s second leg Champions League playoff was strangely reminiscent of that affair in 1970. By all accounts, Celtic simply didn’t turn up, and were turfed out by Kairat, a side from Kazakhstan, described by pundits as being ‘average.’ Karl Marx once said that when history repeats itself it is tragic. When it does it again it becomes farce. This was closer to farce. It’s good to be confident, but being over-confident can be a cataclysmic error. Apologies for talking about football again, but I think the same lesson applies in life.
Today I have mostly been listening to the early Pink Floyd. (I'm getting pretty 'with it.')
