Storto
Storto is Italian for "crooked" so I thought it was a good name for this little male hummingbird with the crooked beak. He showed up in April this year and has been ruling the yard all summer. He is now just guarding one feeder, the one on the deck and if another hummingbird comes near, he zooms out of whatever tree he's been hiding in and attacks. He's molting and if you look closely you can see some pin-feathers on his head. Not looking his finest, but in the spring he will be stunning again. I shall be waiting next spring to see if he shows up.
I had my quarterly appointment with my rheumatologist this afternoon and he's sent a script over to my pharmacy for injectable methotrexate. I've never self-injected before, but it seems pretty straightforward and I only have to do it once a week. Hoping the prescription is filled quickly as I'd like to get started. The reason for switching is that the meds are kind of wreaking havoc with my stomach (common with this drug) and by injecting, I completely bypass the stomach. So, we'll see.
Jax has been celebrating International Dog Day. To be fair, he believes every day is International Dog Day - who am I to argue.
So many monarch caterpillars in my garden now. I know that many have been felled by predators but it's nice to see at least a dozen big fat cats munching away. I've scooped up a few that I found wandering and put them in an enclosure to pupate - the others will find places to make the magic happen.
