The Lozarithm Lens

Bishops Cannings (Tuesday 26th August 2025)

I recently decided to pay a visit to the Bishop Canning Swing Bridge 123, which I hadn't visited in about three years, though I had been to nearby Horton Bridge. This time I approached it from Bishops Cannings on a footpath I hadn't walked before, and luckily arrived as two boats were passing through and the bridge was open.

As I took some pictures I spoke to the woman who was opening the bridge for her partner's boat No Pressure, and she told me she had recently passed a swan family that had eight cygnets. I walked back in search of them but didn't find them. The Blip was taken as I returned to the swing bridge, as a cyclist passed over it.

Later I drove to Horton for a second walk but didn't find the swans there either. I did find sloes.

Looks better in Large.

Mercury Rev and Hope Sandoval – Big Boss Man (2019)
Mercury Rev recreated Bobbie Gentry's Delta Sweete concept album with a variety of guest singers, including Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval. Not all of the songs were Bobbie Gentry originals and Big Boss Man was a blues originally by Jimmy Reed in 1960. Her arrangement particularly struck me on today's replay of the album.
