Californian Poppies
Last autumn I was tasked with creating a wild flower patch in our back garden. I diligently dug up the grass and sowed a variety of stuff, hoping it would survive what passes for winter in these parts.
In spring when nothing had appeared I found some free Californian Poppy seeds in my flower seed box and scattered them at one end of the bed together with some cornflower seeds (also free). They eventually appeared and have turned into this lovely display. I am now being pressured to extend the wild flower patch and sow some more of these, or even better let them self seed. Incidentally, most of the seeds I scattered last autumn did appear eventually but they are at the other end of the bed and no longer in flower.
