A (somewhat) less hilly walk
Today’s walk had a steep descent at the beginning, meaning it also had a steep ascent at the end but this time on roads rather than scrambling up rock. I’ve never walked in this part of Staffordshire before and it’s beautiful and much quieter than Derbyshire on a bank holiday weekend. Today’s surprises were alpacas and emus. This one was on its own but there were about 15 more alpacas nearby. The emus were also totally unexpected. The bridge at across the river site where threee counties meet. Apparently it used to be the site of fights as the police could not arrest people outside of their own county so the fighters would just cross the border. (At least that is the case according to Jonathon another friend we met later).
It has been good to catch up with friends and talk about things big and small. We used to meet annually and the tradition stopped a few years ago and we are now planning to reinvigorate it. I am grateful to have friends who recognised what might help at a difficult time.x
