Seeing Double

12.30 about to depart from Dunaskin Station with driver Andrew Smith (me) and fireman Andrew Smith.

All went well with the new smokeless steam coal briquettes up to and including this train before a lunch break. Problems were encountered after lunch as the fire had died down and new coal wasn't burning well so there was a severe lack of steam pressure and so the diesel was substituted.

We had been running with a deep firebed as recommended, but this resulted in a lack of primary air though the firebars so we will try a thinner firebed next weekend.
