Dizzy's Birthplace

Today we drove through Cheraw, South Carolina, the birthplace of jazz trumpet player legend, Dizzy Gillespie.  In the center of the village is a small park with this statue of Dizzy.  About a mile away in a quiet neighborhood is the site of Dizzy's childhood home.  The house is gone, there is a small sculpture park and gardens celebrating his life.  The musical fence is made up of the musical notation to "Salt Peanuts", one of Dizzy's famous tunes.
