Where are we?

Hay on Wye of course!

We packed up at the house after breakfast and headed across the Severn Bridge again to the Wye Valley stopping at Monmouth for lunch overlooking the R Monnow and its famous bridge.

We then continued through Welsh border country completely new to us to Hay on Wye. Staying at an inn with a plaque that says it is on the sight of The Lion Gate, the entrance to the town. It seemed very quiet. Not so a few yards down the road when we’d checked in and set out to explore.
It is a Saturday and a bank holiday weekend so it was pretty busy. A craft market taking place in the market hall, a restored castle, nice shops and cafes and above all, of course, book shops everywhere. Hay is famous for them and it’s literary festival in May.

Back to our inn and a drink in the beer garden, very warm and pleasant again today. They seem to be busy preparing for an outdoor event tonight but we are booked in for dinner so should be ok.

The family have taken the ferry to the Ullapool on the mainland today and will hopefully now be at the wee hoose -Tigh Beag.
Great pics from the Outer Hebrides on What’s app this afternoon - extra. The girls loved the horses and Grace managed a sauna on the campsite beach!
