The Pensioner

The last day

Of festivalising. Well, unless you count tomorrow’s encounter with The Steel Men as part of some festival of football.

First thing though I had attend to putting the flags in the yard to half mast. Joe, an absolute stalwart of the club, had his second knee operation a couple of weeks back and had been in a lot of pain – he’d apparently got new medication but then no more was heard from him for a couple of days so one of the guys contacted the police to get into his flat.
Up town to the Traverse to see Nowhere – a one man show featuring Khalid Abdalla – ironically, the lead hijacker in United 93 (and Dodi Fayed in the Crown) – an absolute tour de force of a performance.
Then up to the Book Festival to see the “legendary” producer Joe Boyd (yes, yes, Pink Floyd, Nick Drake… and most importantly, the Incredible String Band). And finally, Battleship Potemkin at the Filmhouse with the soundtrack by the Pet Shop Boys.
And was that the end? Noooo! I was given my birthday presents as we’re not here on Tuesday. AND…. top present – a trip to London to see… A Celebration of The Incredible String Band!!*
And it’s even on her birthday. That’s way above and beyond. I better treat her to something decent for her nosh that evening.
