Stillness Speaks

Life Style Choice

A few years ago I made the decision to no longer eat refined foods -- flours and sugars. I made a life style change and lost 52 pounds. Here is what I learned.

Most people take it personally if you tell them you are losing weight or lost a lot of weight and kept it off. It will always be about them.

People will judge your weight. When I say I weigh between 98 - 100 pounds I get a fast judgement. I just laugh and ask, "what exactly do you expect a 4' 11" tall woman to weigh? Which usually stops the conversation.

In America at least, slim is tough because people immediately make fun of it or call you anorexic. Funny but when I was growing up it was the other way around. Why can't people just be nice to each other.

When you tell people you lost 52 pounds, they assume you took a weight loss drug and won't believe you made a life style change and have stuck with it long after losing the weight.

People assume I am ill because I lost weight.

2 friends were genuinely happy for me. 2.

I love how I eat. I love what I eat. I love having normal blood pressure as an almost 70 year old. I love buying fun and crazy clothes. I am not phased by any of the negativity because it is not a reflection of me. I'm proud of myself for wanting to live a healthier, better life.
