IT'S THURSDAY...
...so it must be Community Fridge Day! It was very busy at the Fridge today and because we are closed all week next week, we needed to ensure that all the perishable food was taken.
We did pretty well, with about 175 people through the doors. I was on the desk, writing down the amounts that people took and other information which is needed for those who give us grants - and I’m getting better at remembering their ethnicity. This information is requested by our grant providers and many of our lovely customers laugh when I get it wrong!
Once again, we had lots of lovely flowers and those who take the flowers are so grateful. Many of them say they are taking them for their mother or grandmother so often go without food themselves to do this.
The café was buzzing today and it's amazing how many of our customers have made friends with one another - and it's so good to see them chatting.
I didn’t think I would be as tired today, as I spent most of my time on the desk, but it’s surprising how tiring it is talking to people - but as I often say, it is all so worthwhile and a real privilege to be able to serve our community in this way.
Next Monday, 25th August, is our annual Fun Day and we are expecting lots of people to come, many of whom also come to the Community Fridge - so I shall be there with lots of others from our Church to serve the community in a slightly different way and of course, I shall be giving out my little wooden hearts.
Everything will be totally free including burgers, cakes and drinks, so that will be another busy day - but again, it is a privilege to serve the community and to chat to them all. Perhaps it’s a good job that the Community Fridge is closed for the week - as many of those who volunteer at the Fridge are also involved in the Fun Day.
Take care and hope you all have a great Bank Holiday Monday - if you live in the UK that is and if not, hope your Monday is marvellous anyway! We are praying that the weather holds at least until the Fun Day equipment is “set down”! M xx
