Heavy Horse
It seems that I am on something of an Andy Scott kick just noew!
This statue, Heavy Horse, is at the side of the M8 motorway at Swinton, Baillieston. Passed by countless thousands of motorists every day, it must be one of the best-known statues in Scotland.
According to Scott's own website (www.scottsculptures.co.uk), the inspiration for the statue was the city of Glasgow itself. Just as the city was once an industrial city but has now re-constructed itself for the modern era, so the horse is a beast of burden that now has shed its load, and stands unbridled but decorated and ready to present itself to the world.
So, given such a weight of artistic inspiration and significance, it's good to see that this 4.5m monster enjoys a nice pat on the chest just like his flesh-and-blood bretheren!
