Ancient and modern

The tower of St Giles Cripplegate, which has Roman foundations, mainly medieval construction, repaired after WW2 (see the 1947 photo of the area that is now the Barbican estate with this tower as one of the few surviving buildings in the extra).  I'm looking south across the Barbican lake, which is full of half grown ducklings and chicks today.  In the background you can see the lift shaft of Richard Rogers' Futurist 88 Wood Street, a "diaphanous" tower block finished in 2001.
