Sheet weaver's web.
A lot of sheet weavers had done a great job last night.
When my husband and I woke up this morning it was extremely foggy outside and when we went outside we saw a lot of webs, both the ordinary ones but also a lot of webs made by the sheet weavers!
The sheet weaver spins a characteristic horizontal network in the grass. Above this denser woven layer it has a less dense construction of wires. When an insect flies to these wires it falls into the web and the spider, which usually waits at the edge of the network, rush forward to catch the insect.
We admired a lot of webs and took a lot of pictures! It was beautiful, everywhere around us we saw webs and with a little sunshine it was very special and fabulous! 30 minutes later the fog was almost gone and we decided to go inside and have some breakfast.
In swedish the name for these spiders is "taknätspindel" and in dutch it is
"hangmatspin".
