Living my dream

By Mima

I won't move if you don't move...

These two lovely girls are equally wary of each other. Princess Claudia is a rescue cat and has the most exquisite markings I have ever seen.

She and Bean maintain a respectful distance, with only one hiss from the Princess when Bean got a little too bold.

She belongs to K and A who we visited in town this morning. A has dementia and is declining rapidly. I see them once a month and never quite know how she will be. Until now she has been increasingly confused, forgetful and unable to keep up with conversations, but otherwise apparently content.

Today though she was resentful of all sorts of perceived slights and of being ignored. This is her new reality and it must be terribly hard to live with - for both of them. K constantly reassured her that she is loved, listened to, and that all their family are visiting regularly (and frequently).

Fortunately they have two sons living nearby, and a host of grands and greatgrands who call in and keep tabs on what's going on. They are both very well supported. It does appear that only three or four friends visit nowadays though, which is terribly sad.

I value my independence of mind and body even more after spending time with K and A.

Bean loves them both.
