YOUNGSTER
This has clearly been a good year for the birth of young Herring Gulls. The repetitive high-pitched peep of the young gulls, demanding food, can be very annoying.
Yesterday, along a 500 metre stretch of the promenade, I counted 56 youngsters. It seems that each pair of adults has raised at least three chicks each. It can be quite dangerous as the adults swoop down on any human activity nearby. As they are large birds, measuring over 50cm from bill to tail and with a wingspan of around 85cm, a hit can hurt !
In Scarborough, UK there have been calls for a Gull Cull this year as so many incidents have taken place. With a lifespan of around 25 years I think they will be here for a long time !
As for Boro . . . they managed a draw away from home at Wigan. I will settle for that.
Cricketwise - the Ashes Series has become a bit of a cool ember. In UK County Cricket, Durham won their game so it sets up a grand match next week – Yorkshire v Durham – winners will probably become the Champions !
Don’t forget TOMORROW is the final GREAT AND GRAND FILTERAMA CHALLENGE.
Have a grand week !
