Helmsdale Highland Games
A chilly, breezy, cloudy and showery start to the day. The afternoon was calm, sunny and warm, same this evening.
Up early, with the rumbles from the boat. Arrived at Scrabster, then a walk around my old haunts in Thurso. Stopped off at Dunnet's Head, then cuppa at John o Groats. A walk at Duncansby Head and stacks. Into Wick for a look, then onto Badbea abandoned village. An unexpected stop at Helmsdale. Final trip down to Embo, where our Airbnb is located. Settled in, now time for some pub grub and a few pints.
A great day of exploring in the NE, with so much more to see. The highlight of the day had to be the unexpected Highland Games, I've never attended such games before. There was hammer throw, weight throw, cycling, running, hill running (exhausting to watch!), and so much more, then toss the caber to finish off the events. An event I've only seen on the telly, it was brilliant to watch in person. How they can lift it, then how on earth they manage to toss it, trying to turn it over, some strength. Toss the caber, Helmsdale Highland Games, Sutherland.
