A day of mixed emotions

Up early enough, and the weather is once again very pleasant. Still have this strange sense of unfulfillment – and completely unsure what it is all about. Maybe my mid-life crisis is beginning. Or maybe I am just bored. I spent some time yesterday perusing some of the promotional websites about Ottawa in the vain hope of finding something interesting to do. Now, I realise that many of these things are down to personal taste, but it really is the world’s dullest town. There is even a website called “Ottawa Is Not Boring”, which seems to spend a lot of its time proving that it is. It primarily seems to think that markets and fairs are the things to do – which, as I said, is fine if you like that sort of thing – but it isn’t the sort of thing you can plan a summer holiday around. Many of the things you can do once – and probably enjoy – but I’ve been here for more than 25 years now, and the Carp Garlic Fair isn’t something I want to do again. Maybe I am just menopausal.

Spent the day in the pursuit of something meaningful and failed. Ottawacker Jr. is planning his big day out tomorrow with Mrs. Ottawacker: they are heading off to Montreal on the train. Meanwhile the big summit in Alaska is bound to come to nothing. Putin plays Trump like a fiddle and he either has to do it or is to stupid to realise what is happening. Both are, sadly, equally likely.

In the afternoon, watched the Premier League season opener between Liverpool and Bournemouth (4-2). It was a very good game, until some dick made a racist comment to one of the players. Said dick was escorted out – in his wheelchair. Quite unbelievable in this day and age that some people still are so bloody stupid. Quite an emotional day – as the family of Diogo Jota were there for the match. The minute’s silence was observed impeccably, and the memory I’ll take away from this is of Mo Salah in tears at the end of the game in front of the Kop.
