left field
Myattsfield is a tiny winery here in the Perth hills. They have a 'Left Field Club' in which members sign up for a quarterly or half yearly six pack of their 'left field' wines, produced with much tlc.
The left field grape varieties they grow are very different to the majority grown in Aus. Originating in Spain and Portugal they are suited to the hills' continental climate and just thriving.
Today was a celebration of vignerons Josh and Rachael's 10th birthday as winemakers on their vineyard and what a celebration it was. Tastings of 18!! wines from various vintages in four groups: white wines, alternate varieties (Mourvedre, Tempranillo and Durif), Bordeaux varietals, Reserve and fortifieds.
All teamed with yummy plates of little nibblies....this, apple cured port fillet with black pudding.
All very delicious and very special
And the name Myattsfield comes from Josh's English family roots. Myatts Field was the family's 18th century farm eventually swallowed up by what is now London.
A tiny portion of the farm was retained and is now Myatt's Field Park in Cormont Road, London SE5 and the original gates still remain.
