When you've lived in a place for 40 years and

you are not the best housekeeper.....

So I'm not going to dis my mom too much, just a little friendly ribbing. They would rather garden or read than clean house. And I totally get that. Well there is a lot of dust and dirt waiting to be cleaned up now. (Cleaners will be coming on Tuesday... it will be a big job)
So the back room, which is sort of like a second garage and not really part of the house to be lived in. There was an old fridge from the 70s which still works and a freezer and both of those were moved. Next to the old fridge were some boards that had been stacked vertically between the fridge and a shelf... Well, the other day I decided to look at those boards and was SHOCKED to discover a flying ant colony. Today, I was out by myself and the first thing to do was to remove the boards and set them outside so all those little ants could get away. Thank goodness it wasn't a wasp nest! I have to say the creation of their colony is actually really beautiful. It just wasn't what I wanted to find in the back room..lol
Mom never saw any ants in the house and we've never seen them flying around.
