A red letter day
I rarely see my younger brother, him living in Hayfield in the shadow of Kinder Scout and us in Kent. We often meet at various funerals in Shropshire. He finally retired on his birthday this month so now there is time to catch up.
His wife gave him a 70th anniversary set of the Wainwright Guides which may or may not have been a prompt to get up to the Lakes, explore the Wainwrights and spend more time with us now that we’re closer. I’m all for that.
He drove up from Hayfield this morning and while his wife spent the day with a friend in Ambleside we took the chance to bag a few fells. Walla Crag we’ve done before but was new to him Bleaberry Fell was new to us all. Superb views all round today.
In today’s blip in Bruce, their young Golden Retriever who is only on his second day on the fells. They had to wait until he was old enough to have the stamina. He acquitted himself very well as did my brother.
We enjoyed some liquid replenishment at the Wainwright Inn, Keswick before he picked up his wife and headed home. We’re back up on 31st August so we will reconvene then.
No update yet on the house in Cockermouth!
