This the season to be bombarded with tiny perry pears.

Perry is the pear equivalent of Cider from apples.  Similarly, the source fruit is small and generally not very palatable - which, I'd guess, is why someone experimented with fermenting them.

It's a drink that's much more common in this part of the UK than elsewhere.

We've tried taking them to shows etc. for the purposes of identification but the conclusion from those who know is that ours is just an indeterminate, probably self-sown, variety.

For scale, these are around 3cm across.
