Settling In..

A full night's sleep was just what I needed - I am feeling more like my old self. The temperature has relaxed slightly as well, and methinks we are going to finally get a break from all this heat and humidity?

I did not do much puttering with my camera today as, although it was a busy day around here, the photo-ops were in short supply. No water sports going on, no wildlife sightings (I think they are hiding from the heat too) ..and my attempts at capturing those hummingbirds in focus were again unsuccessful. So, in need of a blip I took the same old photo of the back of our island.

That old easy-blip photo I often rely on is a little bit different this time. It is empty of people lounging, yes, but this time it is not because I am the only person here and I am the one taking the photo, but because it is just too hot for anyone to be out in the sun! We are all up at the cottage on the front deck in the shade! (extra)

The umbrella is not up which is unusual; yes, because no-one is sitting down there in the sun,  but also because of the bat! It can't be left up folded as the bat uses it for his nightly sleep and after it got caught in a guest's hair last week trying to find its bed, that had to stop!

Also, the whole view is different this year as normally there is a  second dock attached to the deck, but the water levels are so low this year, it had to be moved to a different spot along the shore. We had hoped the water level would come back up, but nope, it did not. It is so dry here that the archipelago has just issued a total fire ban. We could see that coming as there are wildfires, not in our immediate area, but in cottage country  not all that far from here.

It was quite a busy day - not as much for me as it was for my daughter and SIL who spent their time destroying hornets' nests, cleaning out mouse attempts at nest building in the dryer vent and in drawers in the shed, and fixing the washing machine that for some reason leaked all over the floor...while I went for a swim and tried a bit of sketching!  :))

In the afternoon, some boating friends of my daughter and SIL dropped by and then my brother Ted came over for a visit and stayed for dinner. One of my favourite things about having my daughter and SIL here is the wonderful meals they create. They love to cook and they stick to healthy foods which is such a good thing for me  (me, who does not like to cook and often does not eat  in a healthy way...)

It is so good to be back where I always feel I belong...in the land of rugged rock, windblown pines and sparkling waters.
