Mystery feathers

These feathers in a group out in the field look far too gingery in colour to be from a wild bird, yet there are no domestic hens anywhere near us now.

Now why would we think a domestic bird would have a feather colour that couldn't occur in a wild bird? Especially as some wild birds (even in the UK) have some very bright colours. Hmmm.
