Peanut Painting
This beautiful painting from our Canadian friend Paula arrived today. Shortly after Peanut’s death, I asked Paula if she would paint her picture (she has done paintings of our kitty Oreo, and our black lab Kirby), and she replied that she already planned on doing that. I sent her a picture of Peanut staring through the stairway rails, and she absolutely nailed it. Her inquisitive eyes, her signature muzzle, her alertness and focus. That’s Peanut. Perfect timing with her birthday yesterday. We will look for a frame for it this week.
This will be the front cover of the book I am doing for her. Paula sent me another picture earlier that will be the back cover.
This thought came to me on Peanut’s short life: If we had not adopted her, she may have ended up in some old lady’s tiny apartment, and she never would have known the joy of being in the garden, of climbing apple and maple trees, of lying in the grass and watching me work, of stretching out in front of the wood stove fire on a cold winter day. She didn’t do that long enough, but she did it. That’s why she is still here.
Looks like it’s been Peanut’s week.
