Bowls, Beach and Blazing Heat

TUESDAY

The heat today was something else – temperatures pushing into the lower 30s°C.

I made the most of the cooler shade in the morning, washing the windows on the west and north sides of the house before the sun reached them. it was far too hot to even think about gardening or tackling the car.

This afternoon I ventured to East Parade Bowling Club at Rhyl, for our  Senior Citizens bowls match. They’re a very friendly bunch despite currently sitting bottom of the division.

We were chasing at least 10 points and just scraped it – eight winners out of ten, plus two points for the aggregate. My own game was against their top scorer, Steve; I was trailing 2–10 at one point, but I clawed it back to 12–12 and pushed ahead for a 21–17 win.

Unfortunately, one of our players had to retire due to the heat, and his game was awarded to the opposition. I've checked and he is now OK.

With just five games to go, the table is tight: Abergele lead with 155 points, ourselves (Rhuddlan) are on 150, and Rhyl are close behind on 146. Both Abergele and Rhyl Bowling Club scored 9 points today, so it’s shaping up to be a nail-biter .

Whilst in Rhyl, I strolled to the seafront which was quite busy with a fair few people in the sea.
