Letting go

I took this knitted cardigan and vest to a charity shop this morning. Many years ago, my mother knitted the twinset for me. The yarn is wool and the knitting is skilful and accurate.

They don’t fit me and are unlikely to fit me in the future, but it has been hard to let them go. I was chatting to an old colleague when the manager came to find me to thank me for this particular donation. She said she hopes they won’t sell too quickly because they look good in the window!

Otherwise, I made the mistake of going into Hexham this morning for a food shop. Tuesday is market day and the town was heaving. One of the roads is closed following the collapse of a chimney and that doesn’t help at all.

I treated myself to a Waitrose shop. I find their prices to be too high, but I also treated myself to food I fancied. I’ve done well with losing weight until I injured my knee. Now that I’m relatively inactive, weight is creeping back on. It won’t do, but I’m treating myself this week!

My newish neighbour, Vicky, gave me a lot of double knitting wool recently. I left the 4 ply wool with her, but I want some to knit a premmie hat for the village show. I’m glad to say that she still had some.

I checked with Kemps wool shop in Sunderland because patterns for 4 ply or 3 ply are hard to find. To my disappointment, the new owners of Kemps have shut down then online store so I have to go in person.

I found a box of Mum’s old diaries. She kept 5 year diaries. I opened one at random to read “Ziggy is still missing” written on page after page until “Ziggy has been missing for 6 months.” We never found out what happened to our lovely boy who was the friendliest cat I’ve ever had. We still had his two sisters, Carla and Bowlby for a few more years. (Freud, Jung and Bowlby!)
