Heather
Up on the moors today hoping the heather was in full bloom and looking for glorious purple vistas. It was all hugely disappointing. Vast swathes of the moorland have turned a brittle reddish brown with just scattered lilac flowers. According to the guy in Hawnby Stores, the culprit is a widespread infestation of the heather beetle. Such a shame. I hope it recovers next year.
