Amazing Thailand Festival, Maidstone

We returned today to try and get some images at the Festival but it wasn't really much busier than yesterday even though we arrived later (after the weekly food shop and obligatory pint at The Horseshoes). 
By the time we did get there, though, we were really hungry so went to one of the food stalls and chose pork and chicken skewers that came with a fiery dipping sauce to go with each - they were both delicious. While sitting there we were approached by one of the performers (see in my image above) after she saw us with our cameras and she asked in we were professionals here to shoot the event. Of course, we had to say that we weren't but we did have some images we'd shot that day and at the same festival last year. She was really friendly and wondered if we could send her some or see them on Instagram. I'm not on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp so I suggested I could send them to her via Wetransfer and she seemed happy with that. Hopefully she will like them, just have to wait and see!
On the way back to the car we met a charismatic fella called Steven - he had two Staffordshire Bull terriers with him, one on a lead and the other sleeping in the pram he was pushing! He just said "d'ya get any good photos?" (he saw us with our DSLRs) and so we chatted to him about the festival and then he saw my brother's Northern Soul t-shirt and he told us he was from Stoke and he knew all about the scene and had been there at it's height in the 1970s. Interestingly, he said it never really went away and is thriving again now. We also talked about Tainted Love which was originally a Northern Soul track sung by Gloria Jones (who later became the girlfriend of Marc Bolan) before it became a world wide hit with Soft Cell's version. It was just lovely to have a really fascinating conversation with him, it really made our day. My only regret was not asking him if I could take a portrait of him and his dogs - I was kicking myself for hours afterwards. Sometimes, though, it is just nice to meet someone new have a chat and, more importantly, listen - it enriches your life no end and lifts your spirits at the same time.
