Finals day at the Longueuil tournament

The big question before the final group stage match against CS Longueuil, who had fielded three teams in the tournament, was would we get to keep them if we beat all three teams. The answer was “no”. Beat them, however, the Ottawa Internationals did, maintaining their hot streak by winning 6-1. I’m not sure if Québec football is a notch behind Ontario football, or whether the Internationals are better than I give them credit for. Ottawacker Jr. played out again, and made a couple of very good tackles in a sweeper role, but he was definitely carrying his left arm in an unusual position, and it didn’t make for very comfortable viewing.

Following the cooling down steps, temperatures were actually higher than yesterday, the final took place at 1.30pm. This time, the Internationals were facing Ontario opposition, in the form of Seaway Valley SC, who are from Cornwall. They had done well in getting to the final, beating Longueuil 3 by 5-3, and this had been the team against which the Internationals had needed a last-minute winner. Ottawacker Jr. again played in defence for the final, and did well. The Internationals were too strong for Seaway Valley, and deservedly won the final 5-1.

After the game, there was the trophy presentation – and then once again back into the car for the drive back to Ottawa. Ottawacker Jr. slept the whole way, only waking up once we were past Orleans. Back home for a long shower, a big dinner, and to look at the three Bob Books photo albums that had arrived during our absence. These are from 2015. Really impressed by the company. Excellent quality, cheap postage, and very quick.
