morning light... and mom
I'm not usually up early in the morning, but I was today. Look what I found! The sun was rising over the river, creating a beautiful, soft light.
We were up early to meet mom at Memory Care. She had 2 doctor appointments, one to check her wrist, which she broke in June when she fell. The other, which is fortunately in the same practice, was to check how her hip was healing after falling and breaking it in May. The good news is her wrist has healed and she doesn't needed the brace anymore. Her hip is healing well at 3 months and just needs a bit more time.
Mom is still in a wheelchair, so we arranged Medical Transport. I went in the van with mom and Steve followed in his truck. We were early for the first appointment for her wrist and it was over quickly. We had to wait a bit for the hip appointment and X-rays were needed for both. Then a wait for the transport van to pick us up. But we got mom back in time for lunch and we were very glad for her no follow-up appointments are needed. Hopefully with the wrist brace off, her PT will be easier.
Things are calmer for all of us now that mom has moved from her prior Memory Care (she was there March - May) and Rehab (June - July) to where she resides now. This community is a real step above, as far as her care, her surroundings, and the friendly, welcoming staff and nurses. Mom has adjusted there fairly quickly and has been happy and laughing with us when we visit her, usually 4-5 times a week. It's not far and we are retired!
We were so pleased to learn that mom, who has been a bit of a loner, has a friend now that she enjoys meals with. They like the same spot in the dining room and enjoy their company! When we visited last week in the main area where there are lots of chairs to sit and chat, her friend was nearby and we were surprised and very happy to learn this. She always sat by herself in the first Memory Care.
Of course Mom still has more health issues than the broken bones, that are now healed. One step at a time though and we are so happy for the good things that have made her life better... and thus, ours!
