Festivities
This morning I launched myself into a rare visit to Edinburgh during festival season. It was worth the effort, in spite of it needing twice as much time and ten times as much patience to walk even short distances.
My mission was to be at a Book Festival event with Scottish journalist Jen Stout and Ukrainian historian Olesya Khromeychuk discussing the posthumous publication of Looking at Women Looking at War written by their late friend Viktoria Amelina .
The author was killed in a Russian missile attack on a busy pizza restaurant in Kramatorsk two years ago.
It was an excellent event. Two fantastic panelists. And I bought books... and I got Olesya to sign hers for me.
Then I adjourned to meet my school friend for lunch. After lunch we adjourned to Sandy Bell's across the street to aid our digestion with a swift beer. Then we lurched homewards.
A great day, but full on and tiring.
My Blip is the inside of the Edinburgh Futures Institute which was the venue. It was Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for most of my existence. I was born a few yards away and went to school across the street.
One Extra is the book signing part of the event. The other is proof that two old f*rts can still hit the pubs on a Monday lunchtime.
