Life through the lens...

By ValC

Scent from heaven.

After deadheading the first flowers on this climbing rose, the second lot are now looking beautiful.
This is the third year and it is beginning to cover this part of the fence.

A very warm and sultry day, with hazy sunshine.
Needless to say the washing has dried.

When looking at my grandfather’s tape measure again, I noticed that there was also another measurement. This time in Poles.
I now know that
25 links = 1 pole ( or rod) = 16.5 ft.
100 links = 1 chain = 66ft =20.117 = 4 poles ( or rods)
10 chains = 1 furlong = 660 ft. = 40 poles.

Interesting that in racing the length of each race is still measured in furlongs.
