a lifetime burning

Mullein

I needed to go into Bristol this morning to visit Wogan's coffee roasters, to pick up our usual coffee order.  It was a glorious morning, although it got hotter and hotter as the time approached noon.  I took the chance to go in on the motorbike, via detours over the Mendips, which meant that it took all morning.

When I started out conditions on the bike were perfect once you hit 30mph, with a small amount of cooling.  But by the time I got home you definitely needed to be doing something north of 40mph to achieve the same degree of comfort as the mercury was hitting 27C in the shade by then.

The bike is now covered in deceased insects, so that's a little job for later on.

In the meantime the garden presented this interesting looking caterpillar - apparently it's the Mullein moth. The caterpillar looks (to my eyes at least) much more interesting than the adult moth.
