A friends book- Eight Words
Yesterday I was at an old school friend’s house for a gathering where she showed her newly published book to some of her close friends and family. I have known her since we were nine at primary school and have kept in touch on and off over the years…and have seen her quite a lot in recent years. This book is not fiction….it is basically her Life Story. Her life has taken many turns in terms of her family….losing her older sister when she was still at school ( Eight words is the reference to the way the headmistress broke the news to her ) She had various career changes, three marriages, three children with first one and now three grandchildren; two other partners, many house moves and several serious accidents plus operations. Often when she told people about some of her life and escapades they said “ you should write a book” so she eventually got around to it over the last two years and then got an editor and a publishing house involved. It is now available on Amazon and will be in bookshops in a couple of months. She is not expecting it to be a best seller but it will be interesting to see how it sells. There is also a true crime twist about her brother in law which I will not reveal.
I have not read it all yet and am interested to see how she writes about the parts I am familiar with. We both went to a convent school and we have slightly different memories of how the nuns treated us!
My life has been quite straightforward in comparison!
I drove home from Dorset via the M3 and was very pleased I was not in any of the traffic jams go8ng towards Southampton and the coast.
