A new family

This must be a second family for the Egyptian goose pair as l would think these goslings are only about 2- 3 weeks old.  There are 8 altogether and they were having great time jumping into the water and walking back up the ramp which someone had thoughtfully put out for them.
A strange thing happened last night, l was sitting quietly reading when there was terrific noise coming from the flat next door, l tolerated it for a while and went upstairs to the study and banged really hard, many times on the wall.  I suddenly thought that noise is really close and looked down and the paper shedder was whirring away, l turned it off and silence was restored (no comment from the neighbours who must have been out). I pulled the plug and left the shredder however  when l went to bed l noticed a lamp was on in the spare bedroom which l hadn't been in all day, l turned it off wondering what was going on, ghosts?  I went back downstairs and into the kitchen and then l knew - we must have had a power surge or cut.  l corrected the time on the microwave and l thought the cooker but after being in bed for half an hour the alarm went off, out of bed down the stairs and reset alarm but alarm still continued going off - into the kitchen, it was the alarm on the cooker,  reset and off to bed again in no mood to sleep but all was quiet after that.  Technology aye?
